Graeme Sutton

 

Background

Prior to entering the financial services industry, Graeme had over 25 years experience in the business sector. During that time he held senior positions in accounting and financial management as well as business and general management.

Graeme, along with David Cooke, has completed a comprehensive review on how to protect small to medium sized businesses from unexpected succession events that force a business owner or part owner to have to exit their business e.g. business partner suffers a serious illness / disablement / death. The aim of the review was to identify & formulate strategies to ensure that the appropriate people had access to sufficient funds to (a) remain in control of the business, and (b) that the person or estate of the person exiting the business receives fair value for their share of the business asset created.

 

Graeme graduated with –

  • A Bachelor of Business Studies degree in 1993
  • A Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Personal Risk Management) in 2010

In addition he –

  • Attained CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) status in 2010.
  • Is an associate member of the New Zealand Institute of Management.
  • Is a Member of the Professional Advisers’ Association
  • Is a Member of the Institute of Financial Advisers

My Approach

Graeme likes to meet with prospective clients to get a good understanding of their particular situation. He can then use his knowledge and experience to design a sound and affordable insurance plan that will provide financial assistance should the unexpected occur.

Graeme also provides advice to small to medium sized businesses on how to ensure the right amount of cash is available should an insurable event force a business owner or part owner to have to exit their business. This forced type of succession is vitally important to plan for as it ensures a business owner or his/her estate will receive fair value for the asset they have created.

Once these plans are implemented, it is important for them to be monitored and reviewed on a regular basis. Graeme will do this for you to ensure your risk management plan is fine-tuned where necessary to take account of changes in your circumstances.

Initially the Insurer refused to pay out my husband’s life cover on the grounds that he had not disclosed an existing medical condition. Graeme gathered all the evidence necessary (some of which had to come from the UK) to prove that no fault lay with my husband. This was an extremely stressful time for us as not only were we dealing with the death of a dearly loved husband and father but his integrity was also being questioned.

Graeme took it upon himself to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that my husband had fully disclosed everything required of him when he completed the insurance application. Graeme consistently reassured me at every step of the way and committed himself to fighting our cause right to the end and if needed he was prepared to take it all the way to the Insurance Ombudsman.

Graeme and the Insurance Broker Group fought for us all the way and as stated above went well beyond the call of duty.  Graeme and the IBG team eventually proved our case and the insurer paid out my husband’s life insurance. At a time when we were struggling to come to terms with my husband’s death, having this taken care of was such a huge relief.
